Wainfest Family Fun Day this Saturday

This year’s annual Wainfest comes to a spectacular end this Saturday with a number of action packed Family Fun Day events in and around Letterkenny.

 

One such highlight is ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped A Show’ event which takes place at the Regional Cultural Centreat 11am. Created from the bestselling ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped’ picture book series, host Alastair Watson brings the books to life with help from The Dinosaur himself! The event includes exclusive video clips from ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped’ creators. All those who purchase books on the day will get the chance to have their book stamped by Dino!  Tickets are €5 per ticket and should be booked at (074) 9120777.

 

Another event to watch out for is the ‘The Wimpy Kid Show’ in association with Easons, Letterkenny This is a must for all ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ fans and great family entertainment. Host Alastair Watson brings the books to life with fun activities including The Wimpy Kid Draw-Along and The Wimp Wars! Quiz. The event also includes exclusive clips of author Jeff Kinney talking about the books, his involvement in the films and showing how he draws the characters. (All those who purchase a book on the day will be eligible for it to be stamped with an exclusive Wimpy Kid Show stamp).

 

The show takes place at the Regional Cultural Centre at 1pm and rickets cost €5 each. You can book at (074) 9120777.

 

If it’s something a little different you are after then make your way to the Scary Stories in the County Museum event. Donegal County Museum in association with Shop LK (Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce) invites you to come and hear some scary stories in the museum on the High Road. This takes place at 2pm and 3.30pm. Saturday will also see Crazy antics at the Courtyard Shopping Centre.

 

This venue invites all the little bookworms to join them for some crazy antics in the Centre. Come along and enjoy their children’s mini market and then write on their Wimpy Kid Wall with ‘a day from your diary’, with the funniest winning a prize. If that’s not enough they will also have storytelling, arts and crafts and life size games in association with Letterkenny Community Development Project.

  

To finish your visit off, jump into their photo booth where you can use props for funny photos and get a free print of the photograph in Magees Pharmacy.This takes place between 12 noon to 4pm.

 

Hiring Fairs were common in rural Ireland in the nineteenth century. At these fairs children would stand in line and farmers would hire those they thought suitable, usually for periods of six months. Universal Books will re-enact the experience of a child from West Donegal who walks into Letterkenny barefooted and stays in a cottage on the Church Lane before being hired out. This show which takes place between 2.30pm and 3.30pm is suitable for all the family but booking is required.

Another highlight on this busy day will be the Eason and Crafty Kids events at the Letterkenny Shopping Centre between 2pm and 4pm. More fun for all and a great way to end the day.

 

The aim of Saturday’s Wainfest events is to get Letterkenny buzzing with books, stories, games, arts, crafts and many more fun things to do. So if you are ready to fall in love with reading and all the fun that it can bring, see you about the town!
